The Scottish Pigeons Trapped In Edinburgh

Anti bird mesh is a very safe way of moving birds on and deterring them from nesting or roosting on your building, as long as it is properly installed.

Edinburgh Council had some of their workers install anti bird mesh under a bridge after it had many complaints about the pigeon’s pooing on the people walking under it. However, they did not scare all the birds away before the installation and about 20 were trapped between the mesh and the bridge.

This carelessness caused uproar, as although people wanted to be able to walk under the bridge and come out the other side clean, no one wanted the birds harmed. The council said there were escape hatches, but the birds were having trouble finding them. The two options left were to remove a section of the anti bird mesh and get the rest of them, and their nests out before replacing it or leave the birds to starve to death. There was a large amount of complaints that the birds had been trapped, and there is no way the council would want to face the consequences of being the blame for so many bird deaths.

They Should Have Used The Professionals

Although this took place a couple of years ago, it still shows the importance of using professionals to install anti bird mesh. This is an impenetrable barrier that will not harm the birds, but will keep the area it is covering free from them.

It is available in different sizes so that it is correct for the species that is being targeted, and made of high quality materials which will not rot and is weather resistant.

A bird infestation can cause health and safety issues. When their droppings are wet, for instance, they can be slippery and cause accidents. If the droppings are left to dry they can cause infections in humans. The birds can unwittingly cause problems with mites and fleas from their nests, which could spread to your staff and customers if your premises are commercial. As they carry the material for their nest they often drop pieces of it and that can cause blockages in drainpipes and gutters.

In spite of the many problems pest bird species can cause, they still need to be deterred from an area in a way that will not cause them any harm. This is enshrined in law, with different levels of protection for different types of birds.
